Stained Glass Window Meaning
Here are the Biblical verses and symbolic meaning related to the various elements in the Niwot UMC stained-glass window. (from Daily Camera Article)
SUN: Psalm:50-1 – “The Mighty One, God the Lord, speaks and summons the Earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.”
MOUNTAINS: Chosen because of Boulder County’s geography and also Isaiah 55:12 reads, “For you shall go out in joy, and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
HILLS: Psalm 121:1 – “I will lift up my eyes to the hills.”
WATER: Christ is the living water.
EVERGREEN TREES: Representative of Colorado and also symbolizes eternal life because they stay green all year.
CROSS: A symbol of Christ’s death and resurrection, the cross was made from red glass that was used in the church before it was remodeled.
DOVE: Represents peace.
BUTTERFLY: Symbolizes the resurrection and eternal life.
LILY: Matthew 2:28b – “Consider the lilies of the fields how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
THE OLIVE BRANCH: A symbol of victory, hope, and expectation of new life.
